A Note of Thanks and Support

 When I reflect on this course one word come to mind: "battle". I say this because becoming an advocate means you're a warrior and need to get ready to do battle and prepare to fight. I felt as though I was the lieutenant and my classmates were my soldiers. Together we were ready to do battle. I got that analogy because with every step I took my classmates were ready to back me up. As I went from blog to blog, discussion to discussion, I got a lot of positive feedback.
 I do believe that I have supported my classmates by doing the following:First, I let each of them vent on how frustrating this process can be both verbally and through emails. Secondly, I respected my classmates differences because even though we might not always agreed on things, I respect their point of view.
 I would like to take a moment to express thanks to all of you for the support. Thanks for your kind post that you guys sent. Congrats to you all!!!

Enlisting and Providing Support

My focus topic is providing support for literacy in the early childhood education field. To my colleagues: What can professionals/parents do to support their children through literacy?  I think literacy is a topic that is so important and should be valued by our children. A child won’t know how important literacy is until they reach adulthood. Now as an adult I know that literacy encases everything I do. Some resources and information I am seeking regarding this is how to support our children or families? I want to know different ways my colleagues may support their co-workers, students, and families in their center. Some resources I have found to be helpful is asking professionals that have been in the filed for years. I have got some great ideas about promoting literacy, such as telling parents to point things out on the ride home, reading to their children every night, and letting kids read to them. I have found these ideas to be insightful. For example, my niece’s teacher told my sister to read to my niece everyday before she went to bed. My niece is a talking machine at the age of two. She can practically say anything that comes to mind and others are able to understand it.

Personal Journal

A quote that you find inspirational regarding the role that advocacy can have in the lives of young children and their families. Then, post responses to the following:
    • “When you know better you do better.”& nbsp;
      Maya Angelou

    • What inspires and excites you most about your advocacy plan and being an advocate?
  • What inspire me and excite me most about my advocacy plan is that I can see it coming together. While I'm gathering all of my information and speaking with my host teacher and the director, they too see what it is that I'm trying to do, by educating my parents more on the significance of literacy at home. They are getting excited about implementing the program and it's giving me that boast of energy that I need to continue.
    • What challenges and/or anxieties do you feel related to engaging in the advocacy efforts you have targeted?
  • A anxiety that I begin that's forming is me thinking about my presentation. I'm a peoples person by when it comes to doing a presentation I begin to get nervous and it tends to show in my speech. Also, I'm wondering do I have everything in order so that my plan come across the way I'm trying to display it.
    • What do you believe will be most effective in helping you overcome any challenging emotions you may be feeling with regard to presenting and implementing your Advocacy Action Plan?
  • I believe the most effective in helping me overcome my challenges in implementing my Advocacy Plan is speaking more with my teacher in what I want to convey. I also use my family members as if they are the teachers, admin and parents. They are helping me to speak clearly and slow down with my words, not becoming too nervous.
    • How can you encourage others in their advocacy efforts, and how can others encourage you?
  • I would say to others is to make sure you have everything in order for your presentation, take your time and to also use your family members to help. My peers can encourage me by giving me the truth on how my plan actually sounds. I think constructing criticisms is the best key.
